چکیده
The effect of bovine pineal extract and light duration on lactation in mice was examined in two experiments. In Exp. I, groups of lactating mice were injected intraperitoneally with 0, .5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 mg extractable protein from a bovine pineal crude extract. The highest dose level was equal to .14 g of pineal tissue. Neither lit ter (eight pups per litter) weight gains, which were used as a measurement of milk yield, .nor dam weight gains were different (P>.10) among t reatment groups in a 14-day lactation period. In Exp. II, groups of lactating mice (14 day lactation period) on two light schedules (16 hr vs 8 hr light per day) were injected daily, intraperitoneally, with a further purified (ultragentrifugated) pineal extract at dose levels of 0, .4 and .8 mg extractable protein per injection. The highest dose level was equal to .50 g of pineal tissue. The pineal extract had a negative linear effect (P<.001) on total l i t ter (eight pups per litter) weight gain. The dam weight gain was not (P>.10) affected by injections of pineal extract. Litters from the 16-hr light group gained more weight (P<.10) than the 8-hr light group. The dam weight gain was higher (P<.01) for the 16-hr light group compared with the 8-hr light group. There was no interaction between light duration and administrat ion of pineal extract . (

Effect of Light Combination and Timing of Supplemental Lighting on Growth Characteristics and Flowering of Pansy (Viola × wittrockiana Rose)
The goal of this study was to examine how different light combinations and timing of supplemental lighting affect the vegetative and reproductive responses of pansy (Viola × wittrockiana Rose). The present study was designed as a factorial experiment based on a completely randomized block design with three replications and two factors of timing of supplemental lighting (night-interrupt...

The aim of this study was to examine how timing of supplemental lighting and different light combinations affect the vegetative and reproductive responses of petunia (Petunia × hybrida Super cascade Blue). This experiment was designed as a factorial based on a randomized complete blocks design with three replications. After being in the greenhouse for 12 hours, the plants received supplemental ...
متن کاملLocalization of hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase in the mammalian pineal gland and retina.
The pineal hormone, melatonin, has been reported to be synthesized in the retina by the enzyme, hydroxyindole-O-methyltransferase (HIOMT). Several laboratories have suggested that melatonin may be involved in photoreceptor outer segment disc shedding, photomechanical movements, and neuromodulation, but the cellular location of the retinal synthesizing enzymes has not been determined yet. Antise...

In this study, the efficacy of Coriandrum and salvia extracts in spatial and passive avoidance memory in mice was studied. 56 male mice (25-30g) divided randomly into 8 groups: negative control, positive control and extract administered (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg of both plants), and treated for 25 days. negative and positive control group received normal saline and Ritalin respectively. After trai...
متن کاملComparative Hypnotic Effect of Rosa damascena Fractions and Diazepam in Mice
Rosa damascena has been found to act on central nervous system including the brain. Several studies confirm that R. damascena inhibits the activity of the hypothalamus and pituitary systems in rat and can suppress the central nervous system. In traditional medicine hypnotic effect of Rose is also suggested. In this study, the hypnotic effect of the ethanol crude extract of R. damascena and its ...
